WHAT’S HAPPENING AT BJMCAA
We have our alumni organization since 1991. BJMC Alumni Association, USA working very hard for welfare of BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital Ahmedabad. We have loan scholarship program for needy students. Since 1997 we are offering 5 new such financial help to new students which continues until graduation unless they fail, which interrupts until they enter in new classes. This is carried out at Ahmedabad by our alumni office. We have two computers rooms in library which are used by undergraduate and post graduate student. We are trying to repair all the computers in library and maintain in working condition. We were also quite challenge and stimulus to local alumni and they have bought brand new furniture and air condition for post graduate library. We have introduced white coat ceremony where each and very new student got white coat with BJMC Alumni logo to introduce the concept of alumni membership from the start.
We have bought neonatal monitoring equipment in neonatal care unit and try to help to reduce infant mortality with help of Dr. Grinspan from Harvard medical school who was visiting resident for 3 months in department of pediatrics and had felt that we have unusual high infant mortality which can be reduced with simple monitoring equipment. He was able to establish proper protocol for monitoring premature new born infant. We really need support of the department to carry out proper protocol.
We have purchased dust bin for each and every room in to the BJMC hostel and trying to collect garbage at central location which might help to teach students and keep our hostel clean.
We had organized large alumni gathering to rekindle the alumnus spirit. For this event our governor was the chief guest. Because of this government had improved our auditorium with 15 lakh rupees and now we have all the benches usable for seating. About 15 gold medals were declared by alumni and professors during this conference each with 50,000 rupees donation.
There was grand plan to improve hostel room. We will spend 50,000 rupees per room in Hostel. We have received 10 such donations and this will be very popular scheme. If it is approved by our executive committee we will sponsor 5 rooms from BJMCAA, USA and will request our members for an individual donation to sponsor a room where their name will be written. We are trying our best whatever we can do to improve the image of our alma mater so it may continue to attract the best students and our degree and educations reputation also maintained and we never have to tell somebody that we are graduated from second rate institution.
To carry out such we have a group of alumni who are sending 1000 dollars and a second group has pledge 500 dollars per year so we can continue present program. We have so many unfinished businesses where we can get involve and make BJMC a better place to educate our future alumni like improve classroom lectures, provide more on line education and research for library, improve sport facility and entertainments.
