I on behalf of all the students and staff members of B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad convey my sincere thanks to all the members of B. J. Medical College Alumni Association, USA for making generous contributions to alma mater for the development and modernization of library and information services.

The calendar year 2003 are briefly mentioned here:

1. Donation of Funds For Books:
   With great pleasure I have to inform you that a cheque for US $ 21,000.00( Rupees Ten lacs only) has been donated from BJMCAA, USA on 31st January, 2003 for the purchase of library books etc. Latest textbooks and serial publications worth Rs. 8.00 lacs have been purchased for students and faculty members.
2. Donation of Funds for the Chairs in Library:
   The BJMC Alumni Association, Ahmedabad has also donated funds for the purchase of 125 steel chairs worth Rs 70,000.00 for the Reading Rooms of Under-graduate students in year 2003. In order to fulfil the requirement of students for more chairs, and with the permission of President, BJMCAA, USA 75 steel chairs worth Rs. 42,000/-have been purchased for the reading rooms of students in year 2003.
3. Extension to Computer Engineers:
   In order to run the Electronic Information Cell of the Library, the services of both the Computer Engineers have been extended for a period of one more year, ie, from February, 2004 to January, 2005 and the salary expenses worth Rs. 1,68,000/- to be met from the BJMCAA, USA funds.
4. Purchase of Lap-Top for the Audio-visual Centre:
   The Multi-media Projector (Philips) has been extensively used for the academic programs conducted by faculty members of this institution in Audio-visual Centre (Sanskriti Hall) of the Library. I am pleased to inform that a sum of Rs. 52,000/- has been donated by BJMCAA, USA on 06-02-04 for the purchase of a branded Lap-top. The purchase is under process.

Progress report of college in brief.

1. Three new P.G.courses started.
   1. pediatric Surgery.(MCH)
   2. Blood Tranfusion Medicine amp; Immune Hematology.
   3. Diploma in Public Health.
2. Hostel facilities
   1. Table tennis tables in all 4 hostels provided
   2. Chairs in TV rooms amp; in guest rooms in all hostels
   3. Garden is done in block A.
   4. A walk way in playground with tree plantation is sanctioned from MLA fund.
3. New Examination hall worth 80 lakhs is complete.
4. Fencing of garden is complete.
5. Renovation of building - colour
6. New toilets -built up.
7. Budget of 7 crores passed from Gov. for new auditorium amp; 3 lect. halls.
8. New gate with 2-lane road with elegant entrance-budget passed.
9. Genetic Laboratory started with Anatomy Department.
10. New Parking place is done.
11. Library Books worth 18.00 lakhs.
12. High speed line with network is passed and in progress.
13. New Trauma Centre.
14. New Air-conditioned pediatric Ward.
15. No. of CME programs.
16. News letter published.

FUTURE PLANS:

1. Asking Torrent amp; Cadila group to maintain amp; renovate hostels.
2. Planning for a library reading room in hostel from MLA Fund.
3. Gymnasium-from Gymkhana Fund.

Report about Library

I am glad to inform you that the Net-working work has been completed and we could get GSWAN (Gujarat state wide area network) connectivity in all the 25 departments of this college and hospital. In other words the library is connected with GSWAN with high speed internet connection (24 hours at no cost) and all the departments of college and hospital including Dean and Suptd's offices are connected with library. With this facility all depts can have access to internet 24 hrs. with high speed and free of cost and access to all the data-bases available in library. The connectivity has also been given to all the six institutions and hospitals in this campus, viz, Cancer, Dental, Paraplegia, Kidney, Cardiology, T.B.and Ophthalmology institutes.

I have no words to express my deep sense of gratitude for your kind and sincere efforts in this direction. It is really a great help to all our students and staff members of this college and allied hospitals in campus. I am also happy to inform you that all the books ordered from the funds (10 lacs) donated by BJMCAA, USA has been received by library in last two months.

Regarding my proposed visit, I have to inform you that as per our personal discussion I have asked my travel agent to purchase ticket for New-Jersey, New-York, Houston, Arizona, Detroit and Orlando. Last time we had included Chicago and Los Angeles also. I have not heard anything from you in last two months, I will be thankful if you could please send a word of confirmation before I proceed further. Since we have inspection from Medical Council of India in the third week of May, I will be able to leave in the last week of May.
